Based within the CAHMS Outpatient Team, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team carrying out a range of clinical duties with minimal/no supervision and maintaining up to date written records. You will work towards SVQ Level 3 Healthcare (Clinical) and embed the learning into practice.

The post will be based within the CAHMS Outpatient Team.
 
What might a day in this role look like?
 
As part of a multidisciplinary team you will:

  • Carry out a range of clinical duties with minimal/no supervision
  • Carry out simple dressings using both sterile and non-sterile techniques
  • Maintain up to date written records, reporting and escalating as required, informing the registered nurse of any changes or outcomes of clinical interventions undertaken
  • Reorganise/reprioritise own workload according to patient need and ward needs without direct supervision, including escort duties
  • Participate ​​​​​​​in clinical audit of services
  • Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and team members across the organisation
  • Be responsible for your own actions and ensure they are in line with the NHS Lothian values and policies.
 
What will I learn?

  • SVQ Level 3 Healthcare (Clinical) and embed the learning into practice
  • The underpinning knowledge units include Digital, Working in the Health Sector and the Human Body and Illness
  • Managing yourself in a complex dynamic clinical environment
  • Address the equality and diversity needs of patients and staff
  • Ensuring patient safety at all times
  • Establish a rapport with the multidisciplinary team and gain the confidence of the patients and their families
  • Maintaining skill and knowledge level in clinical competencies and core skills
  • Key employability skills.
 
What qualifications/skills are required?

  • National 5 or above in English, Maths and Biology/Chemistry at grade C or above or SVQ Level 2 in Health or Social Care
  • 17 - 24 years of age (or up to 29 if you have a disability/care experienced)
  • Passion for working in a healthcare environment
  • Effective team player
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Understand and possess the NHS Lothian Values
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to carry out delegated responsibilities within a dynamic clinical environment.
