Based at one of 5 locations across Edinburgh, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team carrying out personal care for patients, in support of and supervised by registered nurses. You will work towards SVQ Level 2 Healthcare (Clinical) and embed the learning into practice.

Environment:
 
The posts will be based in the following locations:

  • Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh – Acute Medical Unit, Orthopedics, GI /Liver, Department of Clinical Neurosciences
  • Royal Edinburgh Hospital - Learning Disabilities Service, Mental Health Nursing, Neurological Rehabilitation
  • The Royal Hospital for Children and Young people – CAHMS inpatient service
  • Ellen’s Glen House - Hospital Based Complex Clinical Care
  • Western General Hospital – Medical Assessment Unit, Respiratory, Medicine of the Elderly.       
 
What might a day in this role look like?
 
As part of a multidisciplinary team some of your duties will involve:

  • carrying out personal care for patients in support of and supervised by registered nurses
  • carrying out duties to maintain activities of daily living for patient care
  • ensuring infection control measures are met through cleaning of clinical areas
  • maintenance of stock levels of supplies
  • Communicating with patients, relatives, and various team members.
 
What will I learn?

  • SVQ Level 2 Healthcare (Clinical) and embed the learning into practice
  • The underpinning knowledge units include Digital, Working in the Health Sector and the Human Body
  • How to manage yourself in a complex dynamic clinical environment
  • How to address equality and diversity needs of patients and staff
  • How to always ensure patient safety
  • How to establish a report with a multidisciplinary team and gain the confidence of patients and relatives.
 
What qualifications/skills are required?

  • National 4 or above in English and Maths or Core Skills at Level 4 which were achieved within another qualification
  • 17 - 24 years of age (or up to 29 if you have a disability/care experienced)
  • Passion for working in a healthcare environment
  • Effective team player
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Understand and possess the NHS Lothian Values
  • Good interpersonal skills.
