Based at our construction site at Oxwellmains near Dunbar, this role offers an exciting opportunity to learn the core responsibilities of site supervision while contributing to the successful delivery of a nationally significant project. You will gain hands-on experience under the supervision of senior site staff while undertaking SCQF Level 7 Construction Site Supervision (Building & Civil Engineering).

Metlen Energy & Metals is a global industrial and energy company covering two business sectors: Energy and Metallurgy. As part of a consortium with GE Vernova, Metlen Energy & Metals is helping to deliver the Eastern Green Link 1 (EGL1) Project. EGL1 is a new high voltage direct current (HVDC) cable link being jointly developed by Scottish Power Energy Networks and National Grid Electricity Transmission. It will be built between the Dunbar area of East Lothian, and Murton in County Durham. Converter stations and new substations are required onshore at each end. The convertor station works will be delivered by our consortium.
 
Environment:
 
You will support the day-to-day running of our construction site at Oxwellmains, ensuring that work is completed safely, on time, and within budget.
 
What might a day in this role look like?
 
  • Support in scheduling and planning construction tasks and timelines
  • Learn to interpret site drawings, specifications, and project documentation
  • Assist in coordinating subcontractors, trades, and materials to ensure smooth project progress
  • Support site management/supervision in monitoring daily site activities
  • Help prepare and maintain daily site records and reports
  • Ensure all workers follow health and safety policies and procedures
  • Participate in site safety briefings and toolbox talks
  • Report hazards or incidents to senior site personnel
  • Assist in checking that work meets quality standards and specifications
  • Help conduct site inspections and audits under supervision
  • Attend site meetings and contribute updates on progress when required
  • Maintain clear and respectful communication with all site personnel
  • Participate in all training sessions and educational components of the apprenticeship
  • Keep a personal development log (CPD) and a portfolio of work
  • Shadow experienced staff to gain insight into supervisory tasks and responsibilities.
 
What will I learn?
 
You will gain hands-on experience under the supervision of senior site staff while undertaking SCQF Level 7 Construction Site Supervision (Building & Civil Engineering) Apprenticeship.
 
What qualifications/skills are required?
 
Essential requirements & technical/professional qualifications:
 
  • National 5 English and Maths (or equivalent)
  • Relevant construction qualification at SCQF Level 5/6, or on-site construction experience for a minimum of 12 months
  • Basic computer and IT skills are desirable but not essential
  • Able to write and speak English
  • The right to work in the United Kingdom (without sponsorship)
  • Hold a full UK driving licence.

  • Genuine interest in the construction industry and a desire to grow into a site leadership role
  • Proactive mindset with a willingness to take the initiative and solve problems
  • Team player with excellent communication skills and a positive approach towards others
  • Should something not seem right, you will have the confidence to challenge what you see
  • Excellent time management - you will be able to manage different tasks at the same time.
