Salary: £12,844 per annum

You will act as the first point of contact for patients and will provide a high quality, professional reception and administrative service to patients, doctors, staff, colleagues, health service professionals and others. You will work towards SCQF Level 6 in Business and Administration.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Medical Receptionist to join our friendly team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a school or college leaver looking for their first role.
 
What might a day in this role look like?

  • Use judgement, resourcefulness, common sense and local knowledge within defined parameters to respond to patients’ enquiries, particularly in assessing the degree of urgency of the patients’ requests
  • Respond to queries and requests for assistance in an efficient and courteous manner, answering general enquiries and explaining Practice policies
  • Use the appointment system effectively and accurately
  • Record, action and electronically filing correspondence, reports and results
  • Ensure that patient records are accurate, up-to-date and made available to clinicians as required
  • Respond to unexpected absences by any of the clinical staff by taking the appropriate action to cancel or transfer booked appointments
  • Be aware of the Practice’s set standards for appointment availability, taking reporting action as necessary
  • Record daily figures of patients’ attendance and non-attendance
  • Respond to requests for access to medical records and reports in compliance with the relevant Acts
  • Receive and accurately record requests for home visits, assessing urgency in accordance with Practice protocols
  • Ensure that correspondence, reports and results are recorded, actioned and stored in accordance with Practice protocols
  • Work flexibly to provide cover to support the smooth running of the Practice and to actively participate in training meetings and Practice development.
 
What will I learn?
 
You will work towards SCQF Level 6 in Business and Administration.
 
What qualifications/skills are required?

  • Minimum National 4/5 in English/Maths
  • Understanding and approachable to patients and able to respond to patient requests
  • Knowledge of Vision and relevant IT databases
  • Well-developed keyboard skills
  • Able to communicate effectively and collaboratively across varied staff disciplines
  • Enthusiastic, able to motivate self and others
  • Effective time management skills
  • Understand the importance of maintaining patient and data confidentiality.
