£11,757 - £12,745 per annum
Employer: GP Practice based in Dalkeith

You will provide a high quality, professional reception and administrative service to patients, doctors, staff, colleagues, health service professionals and others, while learning all aspects of working in a busy medical Practice and how to use NHS online systems. You will work towards SCQF Level 6 Business and Administration.

Environment:
 
You will provide a high quality, professional reception and administrative service to patients, doctors, staff, colleagues, health service professionals and others. Acting as the first point of contact for patients contacting the Practice, you will portray the Practice in the highest possible professional basis. You will ensure that enquiries from patients are efficiently and courteously handled to the mutual satisfaction of the partners and patients.  You will work 38 hours per week. There is potential for a permanent contract on completion of the Modern Apprenticeship.
 
What might a day in this role look like?
 
Your duties will include:
 
  • Greet patients and visitors to the Practice
  • Book in, amend and cancel patient appointments in line with Practice procedures ensuing optimum efficiency of the appointment system
  • Ensure that patients without appointments but who need 'urgent consultations’ are booked into appropriate slots and referred to a GP where necessary
  • Receive and accurately record requests for home visits, assessing urgency in accordance with Practice protocols. Print off home visit summary sheets
  • Ensure computerised appointment system is up-to-date
  • Respond and/or redirect all patient and visitor requests accordingly
  • Explain Practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and temporary residents, ensuring procedures are completed
  • Set up of new patients on to the computer system
  • Advise patients of relevant charges for private services, accept payment and issue receipts for same
  • Produce repeat prescriptions according to Practice procedures.
 
What will I learn?
 
You will learn all aspects of working in a busy medical Practice and how to use NHS online systems.  As you will be one of the main points of contact for our clients, you will also learn the basics of customer service and the use of our diary management system. The successful candidate will be enrolled onto SCQF Level 6 Business and Administration.
 
What Qualifications / Qualities are required?
 
  • National 5 English as a minimum
  • preferred school or college leaver / young person
  • self-driven and interested in pursuing a career in this sector
  • confident and proactive with the ability to work on your own initiative
  • telephone skills
  • verbal communication – must be proficient in English
  • Microsoft Office skills
  • professionalism

  • highly organised
  • able to work under pressure.
