This two week programme based at Edinburgh College Granton Campus will teach you the basics of sound and lighting equipment, along with rigging, staging, setting up projectors/screens, microphones, PA systems and repairing equipment, and also preparing for a live performance.

The training programme is accredited through Edinburgh College.
 
Environment:
 
Training will be delivered at Edinburgh College Granton Campus, where there are world-class facilities for learning how to operate sound and lighting equipment for live events. Visits to other event venues in Edinburgh will take place during the programme. There will also be opportunities for supported work placements at Edinburgh Fringe venues following completion of the course.

What might a day in this role look like?
 
The first week of the training programme will focus on learning about the basics of sound and lighting equipment, along with rigging, staging, setting up projectors/screens, microphones, PA systems and repairing equipment. The second week will be preparing for a live performance, working with various artists such as actors and musicians. The learning is very hands-on, with only limited time spent on theory. The programme runs from 14 - 25 July (10am - 4pm Monday to Friday).

  • How to service and repair equipment
  • How to build rigging and staging
  • Principles of sound and lighting theory

  • Health and Safety principles for the events industry
  • Career opportunities within the events industry.
 
What qualifications/skills are required?

  • No qualifications required - just the right attitude and enthusiasm
  • Age range is 18 - 25 year olds.
