We’re looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our software development team. This role will suit someone who’s keen to learn programming languages, project management techniques and software processes. You will work towards Information Technology and Telecommunications at SCQF Level 6.

As one of our in-house development team, you’ll use the latest technology to help create and deliver business solutions.
 
What might a day in this role look like?
 
We’ll build on your interest in technology and support you to:
 
  • analyse, design, build and test software applications
  • implement applications in the live environment
  • provide second level support to users with queries or issues
  • provide training to internal users on developed applications
  • use current standards and procedures in all tasks, suggesting improvements where possible.
 
What will I learn?
 
We’ll teach you all the skills you need to start a career in software development. There’s also a combination of classroom based and on the job training to help you achieve an SVQ in Information Technology and Telecommunications at SCQF Level 6.
 
Baillie Gifford is committed to helping its employees continually learn and develop so, as well as a comprehensive induction programme, you’ll have continuous training throughout your time with us. This will be a combination of technical training to do your job to the best of your ability, professional skills courses, and the opportunity to learn about the investment management industry.
 
What qualifications/skills are required?
 
  • National 5 or equivalent in English and Maths, as a minimum
  • A passion for technology is essential
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • The ability to work well in a team
  • The curiosity to learn and a willingness to ask questions
  • A customer focus
  • Excellent communication skills to explain technical issues to non-technical people
  • The ability to work methodically and accurately, with a safety-first approach to change 
  • Good organisation and time management skills.
