Working alongside the technical team on daily operations aligned to the technical service side of the Facilities Management department, your will ensure that all aspects of building services and associated maintenance activity is carried out in line with associated frameworks as well as supporting conditional maintenance activity. You will work towards Facilities Services at SCQF Level 5.

Environment:
 
You will work within our Building Services Team who are responsible for the running of our buildings, including any maintenance, heating and cooling within the buildings, whilst ensuring a safe working environment for staff. The team ensures that all aspects of building services and associated maintenance activity are carried out in line with health and safety regulations as well as supporting ongoing maintenance activity. Ongoing maintenance can include replacing light fittings and carpet tiles and ensuring walls and fixtures remain in good condition. You will provide support to the 5-strong Building Services team.
 
What might a day in this role look like?
 
Your key responsibilities will include:
 
  • learning and developing the skills needed to identify and fix building related issues quickly and correctly
  • learning how to install new socket and data outlets, lights and other fixture and fittings found within office and home-based environments
  • assisting with daily checks to make sure our buildings are following local Health & Safety Regulations and Building Services compliance
  • learning and completing planned maintenance activity, learning what paperwork is involved and how the records are completed and logged
  • assisting our Technical team, helping them with tasks and maintenance activity on all of our buildings and learning first-hand
  • supporting contractors on-site small to medium size refurbishment projects
  • learning what happens when shutdowns, blackout testing, equipment testing and maintenance take place
  • given the opportunity to learn and be part of a SMART Building implementation using IOT (Internet of Things) Sensors and how to use the data provided to enhance the Facilities Management team.
 
What will I learn?
 
The programme will provide a combination of classroom based and on the job training to allow you to achieve an SVQ in Facilities Services at SCQF Level 5.

What qualifications/skills are required?
 
  • National 5 or equivalent in English, as a minimum
  • A positive attitude and enthusiastic manner
  • A desire to learn about property maintenance
  • The ability to work well in a team
  • Strong customer focus
  • Ability to build strong relationships.
