Contract: Fixed Term - 5 years
Salary: £18,200 per annum
Employer: Geoghegans Chartered Accountants
Closing Date: Thursday 30 June

We are looking for school leavers to join our team as part of our CA training programme commencing in August 2022. Candidates should have a strong academic record, good interpersonal skills and share our passion and commitment for providing outstanding client service.

Employer:

Established in 1918, Geoghegans is one of Scotland’s leading independent firms of chartered accountants. We are a 4-partner firm, based in central Edinburgh and employ over 60 staff, including 17 CA trainees and 7 Tax trainees. We provide a range of services to organisations in a number of different sectors and this variety helps to ensure our trainees have the opportunity to learn something new with every assignment.

Environment:

We believe that one of our strengths is the level of support we give to our staff and our trainees. Soon after trainees arrive, they are allocated a mentor, who offers guidance and support throughout the training contract. These mentors are newly qualified CAs who understand exactly what it is like to undertake a CA training contract. Our trainees also attend quarterly meetings with our Student Counselling Partner to discuss their experience to date, any work or exam issues and to participate in presentations on relevant technical issues.

What might a day in this role look like?

You will begin by joining our outsourcing team. This will involve preparing management accounts and VAT returns for a portfolio of clients. You will be working alongside other trainees and experienced members of the team.

What will I learn?

Your first two years will involve learning the basics of accountancy. As your experience grows, you will join either one of our accountancy or audit teams working on larger and more complex assignments. This will also involve gaining experience in corporation tax. Alongside this, you will be studying towards your Chartered Accountancy qualification with ICAS who are one of the most prestigious and globally recognised professional accountancy bodies.

What qualifications/skills are required?

We are looking for candidates with B in Higher Maths and English alongside a strong academic record. The candidate should be hard working, a good team player and be able to communicate well with their peers.
