This Modern Apprenticeship is with the University's Accommodation, Catering and Events department (ACE) who provide a comprehensive range of accommodation, conference, event and catering services for staff across the University and for all types of visitors to the University.
The main function of the Edinburgh First Catering and Event Kitchen team, within ACE, is to provide food and beverage services to a range of customers. These services can be provided in our five on-site conference and event venues at Pollock Halls (beside Arthur’s Seat) or as part of an outside catering service.
Working from a central production kitchen, our team of 15 chefs prepare and deliver food to a wide range of customers across a number of venues. With a wide menu portfolio and a high volume of diverse events, this hard-working team are hands on in ensuring the successful execution of events across the University. There are no two events which are the same and there will be the opportunity to work in a number of kitchens with experienced chefs.
What might a day in this job look like?
The post holder will work 35 hours over any 5 out of 7 days per week. A typical day will involve any shift of 8 hours between the hours of 6 am and midnight for the preparation and service of:
What will I learn?
You will undertake a Modern Apprenticeship qualification (SCQF Level 6) in Professional Cookery which is an internationally-recognised qualification. You will also gain practical experience of food preparation and cooking and learn the skills and knowledge required to become a Commis Chef. These include, but are not limited to:
